Bulletin for Trinity 3, June 28, 2020

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

June 28, 2020 Third Sunday after Trinity

**INVOCATION   (Matthew 28:19)

                           **CONFESSION/ABSOLUTION (1 John 1:8-9)

  Pastor:           If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  People:          But, if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(silence for reflection and self examination)

 Pastor:            Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

  People:          Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your most Holy Name.  Amen.

Pastor:             God in His mercy has given His Son to die for His sake….

**KYRIE ELEISON:  Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy, Lord, have mercy, have mercy, O Lord.

** GLORIA IN EXCELSIS  (to be sung)

 Pastor:              Glory be to God on high

 People:           and on earth peace, good will toward men.  We praise you, we bless you, we

worship you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.  O

Lord God, heav’nly King, God the Father Almighty.  O Lord, the only

begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy; who takes away the sin of

                        the world, receive our prayer, who sits at the right hand of God the Father,

                        have mercy.  For you only are holy; you only are the Lord; you only, O

                        Christ, with the Holy Spirit, are most high in the glory of God the Father.

                        Amen.

**PRAYER FOR TODAY

O God, the Protector of all who trust in You, without whom nothing is strong and nothing is holy, multiply Your mercy on us that, with You as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

HYMN ~ LSB#915 Today Your Mercy Calls Us (St. 1, 3-4)

1 Today Your mercy calls us
    To wash away our sin.
However great our trespass,
    Whatever we have been,
However long from mercy
    Our hearts have turned away,
Your precious blood can wash us
    And make us clean today.

3 Today our Father calls us;
    His Holy Spirit waits;
His blessèd angels gather
    Around the heav’nly gates.
No question will be asked us
    How often we have come;
Although we oft have wandered,
    It is our Father’s home.

4 O all-embracing Mercy,
    O ever-open Door,
What should we do without You
    When heart and eye run o’er?
When all things seem against us,
    To drive us to despair,
We know one gate is open,
    One ear will hear our prayer.

THE EPISTLE                           1 Timothy 1:12-17

Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the Words of eternal life. Alleluia

**THE GOSPEL                       Luke 15:1-11

  **WHAT WE BELIEVE    The Apostles Creed

       I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

     I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of  saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

SERMON HYMN ~   611 Chief of Sinners Though I Be (St. 1-4)

1 Chief of sinners though I be,
Jesus shed His blood for me,
Died that I might live on high,
Lives that I might never die.
As the branch is to the vine,
I am His, and He is mine.

2 Oh, the height of Jesus’ love,
Higher than the heav’ns above,
Deeper than the depths of sea,
Lasting as eternity!
Love that found me—wondrous thought!
Found me when I sought Him not.

3 Only Jesus can impart
Balm to heal the wounded heart,
Peace that flows from sin forgiv’n,
Joy that lifts the soul to heav’n,
Faith and hope to walk with God
In the way that Enoch trod.

4 Chief of sinners though I be,
Christ is all in all to me;
All my wants to Him are known,
All my sorrows are His own.
He sustains the hidden life
Safe with Him from earthly strife.

1 Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me. Refrain

Come home, come home,
You who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!

Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised,

Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon,
Pardon for you and for me. Refrain
