Bulletin for November 29, 2020 (First Sunday in Advent)

**INVOCATION   (Matthew 28:19)

                           **CONFESSION/ABSOLUTION (1 John 1:8-9)

  Pastor:            If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  People:          But, if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(silence for reflection and self examination)

 Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

  People:          Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your most Holy Name.  Amen.

Pastor:             God in His mercy has given His Son to die for His sake….

**KYRIE ELEISON

Pastor: …in peace let us pray to the Lord:

People: Lord, have mercy.

**PRAYER FOR TODAY

Stir up Your power, O Lord, and come, that by Your protection we may be rescued from the threatening perils of our sins and saved by Your mighty deliverance; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

HYMN ~ LSB#331, “The Advent of Our King”

1 The advent of our King
our prayers must now employ,
and we must hymns of welcome sing
in strains of holy joy.

2 The everlasting Son
incarnate deigns to be;
himself a servant’s form puts on,
to set his servants free.

3 O Zion’s daughter, rise
to meet your lowly King;
nor let your faithless heart despise
the peace he comes to bring.

4 As judge, on clouds of light,
he soon will come again,
and his true members all unite
with him in heaven to reign.

5 Before the dawning day

Let sin’s dark deeds be gone,

The sinful self be put away,

The new self now put on

6 All glory to the Son
who comes to set us free,
with Father, Spirit, ever One,
through all eternity.

EPISTLE READING                                Romans 13:8-14

1 O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear. Refrain

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!

**THE GOSPEL                                           Matthew 21:1-9

 **WHAT WE BELIEVE           The Apostles Creed

       I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

     I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of  saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

SERMON HYMN ~ TFBF#149, “Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God”

1 Seek ye first the kingdom of God

And His righteousness

And all these things shall

Be added unto you  Allelu, alleluia

2 Ask, and it shall be given unto you

Seek and ye shall find

Knock, and the door shall

Be opened unto you  Allelu, alleluia

THE MESSAGE ~ “Your King” (Matthew 21)

OFFERTORY

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free Spirit

SONG~ TFBF#86, “King of My Life,”

1 King of my life I crown thee now —

Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.

Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget thine agony,
Lest I forget thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

2 Show me the tomb where thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded thee whilst thou slept. [Refrain]

3 Let me like Mary, thru the gloom,
Come with a gift to thee;
Show to me now the empty tomb —
Lead me to Calvary. [Refrain]

4 May I be willing, Lord, to bear
Daily my cross for thee;
Even thy cup of grief to share —
Thou hast borne all for me. [Refrain]
