Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

November 22, 2020 Last Sunday of the Church Year

**INVOCATION   (Matthew 28:19)

                   **CONFESSION/ABSOLUTION (1 John 1:8-9)

  Pastor:   If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  People: But, if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(silence for reflection and self examination)

 Pastor:    Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

  People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your most Holy Name.  Amen.

Pastor:     God in His mercy has given His Son to die for His sake….

**KYRIE ELEISON:  Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy, Lord, have mercy, have mercy, O Lord.

** GLORIA IN EXCELSIS  (to be sung)

 Pastor:                 Glory be to God on high

 People:   and on earth peace, good will toward men.  We praise you, we bless you, we worship you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.  O Lord God, heav’nly King, God the Father Almighty.  O Lord, the only begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy; who takes away the sin of the world, receive our prayer, who sits at the right hand of God the Father,      have mercy.  For you only are holy; you only are the Lord; you only, O Christ, with the Holy Spirit, are most high in the glory of God the Father.Amen.

**PRAYER FOR TODAY

O Lord, absolve Your people from their offenses that from the bonds of our sins, which by reason of our frailty we have brought upon ourselves, we may be delivered by Your bountiful goodness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

HYMN ~ LSB#461, I Know That My Redeemer Lives (St. 1, 6-8)

1 I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever-living head.

6 He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly friend;
He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while He lives, I’ll sing;
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

7 He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death;
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.

8 He lives, all glory to His name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same;
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives:
I know that my Redeemer lives!

EPISTLE READING                             1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

**THE GOSPEL                                           Matthew 25:1-13

 **WHAT WE BELIEVE The Apostles Creed

       I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

     I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of  saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

SERMON HYMN ~ TFBF#261, “To God Be the Glory”

1 To God be the glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life gate that we may go in.

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thro’ Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he has done!

2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev’ry believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender by grace may believe,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receive. [Refrain]

3 Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our vict’ry, when Jesus we see. [Refrain]

THE MESSAGE

OFFERTORY

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.  Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free Spirit

SONG~ TFBF#201, “The Blood that Jesus Shed for Me,”

1 The blood that Jesus shed for me,

Way back on Calvary;

the blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

CHORUS

It reaches to the highest mountain.

It flows to the lowest valley.

The blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

2 It soothes my doubts and calms my fears,

And it dries all, all my tears.

The blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.
