Bulletin for July 12, 2020

Mount Calvary Lutheran Church

July 12, 2020 Fourth Sunday after Trinity

  **INVOCATION  (Matthew 28:19)

  **CONFESSION/ABSOLUTION (1 John 1:8-9)

Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

People: But, if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(silence for reflection and self examination)

Pastor: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.

People: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.  We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.  We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your most Holy Name.  Amen.

Pastor: God in His mercy has given His Son to die for His sake….

**KYRIE ELEISON:  Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy, Lord, have mercy, have mercy, O Lord.

** GLORIA IN EXCELSIS  (to be sung)

Pastor:             Glory be to God on high

People: and on earth peace, good will toward men.  We praise you, we bless you, we

worship you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.  O

Lord God, heav’nly King, God the Father Almighty.  O Lord, the only

begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy; who takes away the sin of

the world, receive our prayer, who sits at the right hand of God the Father,

have mercy.  For you only are holy; you only are the Lord; you only, O

Christ, with the Holy Spirit, are most high in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

**PRAYER FOR TODAY

O God, You have prepared for those who love You good things that surpass all understanding. Pour into our hearts such love towards You that we, loving You above all things, may obtain Your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

HYMN LSB#684 Come unto Me, Ye Weary

1 “Come unto Me, ye weary,
And I will give you rest.”
O blessèd voice of Jesus,
    Which comes to hearts oppressed!
It tells of benediction,
    Of pardon, grace, and peace,
Of joy that hath no ending,
    Of love that cannot cease.

2 “Come unto Me, ye wand’rers,
And I will give you light.”
O loving voice of Jesus,
Which comes to cheer the night!
Our hearts were filled with sadness,
    And we had lost our way;
But Thou hast brought us gladness
And songs at break of day.

3 “Come unto Me, ye fainting,
And I will give you life.”
O cheering voice of Jesus,
Which comes to aid our strife!
The foe is stern and eager,
    The fight is fierce and long;
But Thou hast made us mighty
    And stronger than the strong.

4 “And whosoever cometh,
I will not cast him out.”
O patient love of Jesus,
    Which drives away our doubt,
Which, though we be unworthy
Of love so great and free,
Invites us very sinners
To come, dear Lord, to Thee!

THE EPISTLE                           1 Peter 3:8-15

Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the Words of eternal life. Alleluia

**THE GOSPEL                        Luke 5:1-11

**WHAT WE BELIEVE The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again

from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of

saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life

            everlasting.  Amen.

SERMON HYMN ~ TFBF#228 “I Love to Tell the Story”
