Sermon for Easter Day, April 12, 2020

Mark 16: 6And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”

They say that if you get infected with it and recover, you very unlikely to get it again.  You’re likely immune.  Your body will know what to do the next time it sees it and you won’t feel it or be able to pass it on to others.

Your immunity has been built.

That’s the point of all vaccines – to build your immunity.  If your body knows how to attack the disease quickly and effectively, then the disease can’t harm you at all or can only do you very little harm.

Dear saints today, you receive this immunity building truth once again!

Alleluia, Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed, alleluia.

That is your vaccine.

Everything you could possibly fear, your Jesus has faced.  Easter is not just about a dead man rising from the dead, but about your God who died to pay for your sins rising from the dead.

If He is alive and I am in Him, then what could I possibly fear?

If God is for me, who can be against me?

If it is God who justifies, who is to condemn?

If God gave up His Son, how much more will He graciously give me all good things?

Your Jesus’ resurrection builds you immunity to all of your misplaced false fears.

Should you fear death?  Jesus is risen and you will rise with Him when you die.

Should you fear sin?  Jesus has made the payment, and not only are you debt free, you also have a credit – a big one – Jesus’ innocence and righteousness are on you.

Do you not know what all who are baptized into Christ Jesus has put on Christ?

Should you fear this world?  Take heart, He’s overcome it, not for Himself, but for you.

This truth builds your immunity.

Your body will know what to do when you die.  You have already died with Christ in baptism.  Jesus has already attacked and overcome death and He is in you and you are in Him.

Death can do us harm, but only a little, because the sting of death has been taken away.

Thanks be to God who gives the victory through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Right now, there’s so much that we don’t know.  Even well-meaning people say and believe all sorts of things that aren’t facts or certainties.

Today, Jesus builds your immunity against that which may or may not be true and that which is completely false with these truths.

Easter morning comes to us today with a risen and present Savior to give us the facts that we can hold onto.

Jesus has won and He loves you and He is here for you.

Darkness is overcome with light.

Wrath is overcome with peace.

Fear is overcome with hope.

Anxiety with rest.

Sadness with joy.

Hatred with love.

Sin with righteousness.

And death with life. Our Lord ripped His life out of death’s grips.

He has taken His life back, from sin, death, and the devil, and presents us with the truest things we can know.

His facts change everything.

Everything else can deceive and mislead us.

Today, you came seeking Jesus of Nazareth because you have began to know the lies in yourself and in the world and you want to grasp onto the truth, to build your immunity and fight back against the deceptions and lies.

Today you came seeking Jesus of Nazareth, and He is here, just as He told you.
